AVALAKKI IDLI (RICE FLAKES IDLI)

Preparing idli is a tedious and long process, the soaking, grinding, overnight fermenting, lots of work. So, when you feel bored of doing all those things but still want to idli, then this is your recipe. It is amazingly easy, packed with nutrients and probiotics.



Nutritional benefits:

100g of flattened rice gives, 346kcal, 77.3g of carbohydrates, 6.6g of protein, 1.2g of fat and 20mg of iron. 100g of curd gives, 60kcal, 3g of carbohydrates, 3.1g of protein and 4g of fat.


· Flattened Rice is made of 76.9 % of carbohydrates and about 23 % of fats. Hence, it is a great food as these healthy carbs provide energy to the body to carry out is daily functions.

· Flattened rice is also light on the stomach and can be easily digested. And will never cause bloating and will also keep you fill for longer.

· Pregnant Women or Lactating Women are often advised to eat soften flattened rice, as these women are at high risk of gestational anemia. This is because the production process of flattened rice requires the rice to pass through iron rollers. The flattened rice retains some of the iron from the process and is hence considered to be rich in iron.

· Curd has essential elements like Vitamin A, vitamin B-12, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and Protein, which provide lots of health benefits.

· Curd has lactic acid bacteria that enhance B and T cells which build up our body immunity system. It is believed that if your immunity system is good it can protect you from more than 100 common diseases.


Ingredients:

· Thick beaten (also called flattened) rice – ½ cup

· Idli rava – 1 cup

· Curd – 1 cup

· Salt as per your taste.

Method:

1. Soak the flattened rice with curd for 30-35 minutes. Then blend it to form a smooth paste. Pour it into a bowl.

2. Add idli rava and salt to the same bowl. Rest it for 10-15 minutes.

3. Adjust the consistency of the batter with water. It should same as idli batter.

4. Grease the idli plates with oil and cook it for 20-25 minutes, till it is baked properly.

5. Serve hot and enjoy it with chutney or sambhar.


PS: Leave the idli to cool for 5 minutes, or else, though cooked it might appear to be little slimy.
